Learn to Row

The Putney Rowing Club offers a Beginner Clinic, open to 10 people, every spring.  It is intended to teach the fundamentals of sculling to people who have never rowed before but it might also be of interest to someone who rowed sweeps some time ago and would like to scull.   The clinic is taught by club members or local coaches who are assisted by other club members.  After completing the clinic, the club offers a mentoring program in which clinic graduates row with club members to solidify and improve their skills.

The 2026 Beginner Clinic will consist of 8, approximately two hour, sessions on Tuesday evenings (5:30 to 7:30) and Saturday mornings (7:30 to 9:30), beginning Tuesday, June 2.

To enroll in the clinic, you must first obtain a Trial Membership of the Putney Rowing Club. The Trial Membership fee is $250; it lasts for one month and it is open to anyone who has not sculled before. It entitles the holder to a free beginner clinic and can be upgraded to a full Individual Membership for a reduced fee of $40.

If you are interested in taking the Beginner Clinic in 2026, please fill out the form below and include any questions you may have.   After reviewing your information, the club will contact you to discuss further steps.
