The Green Mountain Head Regatta will not be held in 2026

The Green Mountain Head Regatta has been cancelled for 2026 but we anticipate it will return in the fall of 2027. The PRC has received the go-ahead to build a new boathouse on the Connecticut River and we hope it will help secure a more stable future for us. We are a small club and the building project will require much of our small club’s limited resources so we have reluctantly decided not to host the regatta this year.

We appreciate your participation in the past and wish you a happy and successful racing season.

The Putney Rowing Club hosts the Green Mountain Head Regatta every year at the beginning of fall when the natural beauty of the location is usually heightened by developing fall foliage.  For many years the regatta was held on the Connecticut River in Putney, Vermont before moving to its present location 16 miles upstream in Herrick’s Cove near Bellows Falls. Unlike most fall head races, the regatta is only for sculling boats (two oars/rower) and draws competitors of every ability and age from the eastern seaboard and Canada.  It is also unusual in that it is a stake format race in which boats race one and a half miles upstream, turn around a pair of buoys and return.  Although the level of rowing is high, the regatta atmosphere is informal and relaxed.
